Vineyard Dr. Wagner

Exceptional Rieslings from the Mosel

Christiane Wagner runs this distinguished vineyard in the Mosel wine region, which is member of the VDP.

The wines are fresh, full of character, and very well balanced. They have a light acidity, with a pleasant minerality and relatively low alcohol levels. They have complex aromas of peach, apricot, lemon and herbs. Thanks to the varieties in the Mosel climate, every vintage expresses different nuances of the Riesling

Christiane Wagner is the fifth generation to run this over 100 years old vineyard at the Saar river, a tributary of the Mosel, in the Mosel wine region. The terroirs of the vineyards Saarburger Rausch, Saarburger Kupp und Ockfener Bockstein provide perfect conditions for Rieslings. She knows every rock and every vine on these vineyards. Her philosophy is to preserve the natural quality of the wines and to work hand-in-hand with the environment.

All labour on the vineyard is conducted entirely by hand, ensuring the highest quality, and a good selection of the best grapes during the harvest. In the largest arched cellar along the Saar river – equipped with its own spring – the wines age in large wooden casks.

Exceptional Rieslings from the Mosel

Dr. Wagner Saar Riesling

This uncomplicated, dry Saar Riesling is fresh, pure and mineral. It has flavours of apple and ripe lemons. The well balanced acidity is the backbone of this wine. The wine is a good partner of seafood, fish dishes and poultry, as well as salads and starters.

Spätlese Alte Reben 'Saarburger Kupp'

This is an outstanding dry late harvest wine from old vines. The vines are more than 55 years old, producing very small and ripe grapes. This results in concentrated aromas of apple and stone fruit, complemented by a slightly salty minerality from the slate soils. The wine is a good partner of fried seafood and fish as well as poultry and pork with light sauces.

Saarburger Rausch Spätlese, off-dry

This outstanding late harvest wine has the perfect balance of fruitiness, minerality and sweetnees. The aromas and flavours of ripe fruit are supported by a little bit of residual sugar, without being too sweet. The grapes are slightly affected by botrytis, giving them very unique flavours and a fine acidity. The wine is a good partner to Asian cuisine, such as woks, Thai and Indian curries as well as sushi.

Ockfener Bockstein Auslese fruchtsüß

This excellent sweet wine expresses very well the special terroir of the Ockfener Bockstein. The wines have well developed acidity to balance its sweetness. It has bloomy aromas, followed by flavours of peach and apricot, with a very long finale. The wine is a very good digestive and a good partner for sweet desserts.

The winery of Dr. Wagner is located in Saarburg, in the southern part of the 'Obermosel' (see map below).
